TRADITIONAL UPHOLSTERY CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
IN LEIGH ON SEA, ESSEX
These fantastic upholstery courses give you the chance to up-cycle and personalise a family heirloom or a car boot find! You will be guided through the various upholstery techniques; removing the old fabric and stuffing, stripping the chair back to the frame and making good and re-building from inside out.
You may also get to grips with coil springs, upholster hammer and tacks, webbing, horse hair, stitched-edge rolls, deep buttoning and the use of trims and braids.
WHO ARE THESE COURSES FOR?
This course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic knowledge but little experience who wish to extend their expertise at their own pace with like-minded people.
Bring your chair to work, along with your upholstery fabric. Upholstery tools and materials are supplied but materials will be charged for on the basis of what you use.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE UPHOLSTERY CLASS:
- Items of furniture to be re-upholstered – please see how to choose your project.
- Notepad and pen
- Camera or mobile phone to record stages of your work
- Sensible closed toe shoes
- Top Fabrics – If you are unsure about the quantity or type of fabric this can be discussed when you start the course.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PROJECT?
If you have little or no experience of upholstery start with something simple such as an upholstered footstool a pin-cushion, stuffed chair or drop-in dining seat and move on from there.
More experienced upholsters can bring more challenging pieces such as chairs with one or two flat areas such as a seat and a back. Sofas with arms and curves are more complex and may not be completed by the end of the course.
Note: Please email us a photo of your project before the start of the course so that we can advise you better, as stripping back the old upholstery and making good the frame can take considerable time.
